We went camping this August 4th weekend with a few other neighbors. Julie and
the kids got an extra day over me as we set up on Thursday night but I had to
go back because of work on Friday. One set of the neighbors
camped with a tent like us, another slept in their boat and another set came out
on Thursday and Sunday.

We went to see what was once called an eighth wonder of the world. The brochure said that we
could walk out on the bridge on a walkway along the side of the tracks. Unfortunately, they
were reinforcing/rebuilding the support towers as engineers had said that the towers had
rusted and weathered too much and were not safe anymore. We found out about 3 months
later that those engineers were correct. The was a microburst wind storm that went through
the area and blew over the trestle. Of the rougly 20-30 support towers that hold up the tracks,
only the 6 outer towers on each side (the ones that they had already restored) were still
standing, the rest are just twisted beams of metal strewn across the valley floor.
